Public Screening of the movie '1957 - HATI MALAYA' from 25 October 2007

Dear friends,

Just to alert you in case it has somehow escaped your attention, the movie on Malaya's struggle for independence will hit cinemas all over the country beginning 25 October 2007. A Pesona Pictures production directed by Shuhaimi Baba, this is the first time that a feature film on the this theme has ever been produced.

The film was inspired by the 50th anniversay of Malaysia's independence and a desire to generate greater awareness and better appreciation on the part of the Malaysian public especially the younger generation on the role played by Dato' Onn Jaafar ( founder of UMNO) and Tunku Abdul Rahman (Father of Independence). Events and issuesin the striggle for independence are seen, articulated and argued through five contemporary fictional characters who belong to a media team assigned to research and produce a picture book on Malaya's independence. The characters become immersed in the story and take on the role of characters involved in the independence movement .A love triagle involving the fictional characters are woven into the story. For more information please surf the movie's website at www.1957hatimalaya.com

Well known and award winning actors Rusdi Ramli, Maya Karin, Sharifah Amani and Adlin Aman Ramli star in the movie. The plum roles of Onn and Tunku and played by newcomers Zaefrul Nordin and Kamarulzaman Taib who gave an amazingly effective portrayal of the main protaganists.I have seen a preview of the movie and I have no doubt that it has succeeded in giving a very effective, accurate and fair interpretation as well as highly interesting portrayal of the Merdeka story, with all its passion, emotion and intrigues. If you think you know the story of Malaya's independence, its dramatisation in the movie will make you realise how little you actually realise and appreciated the roles played by those involved, in particular Dato' Onn Jaafar and Tunku Abdul Rahman. Those acting in the movie, the researchers and production team who had to internalise the characters and story, had goosebumps and are moved to tears whenever an emotion-charged scene is enacted by the main characters.

But of course you must not take my word for it. Do go and see the movie for yourself with your family and friends at the cinema nearest to you. Every Malaysian should see this cinematic interpretation of a very important period of our nation's history so its dramatic impact will be etched in our minds. I hope you will enjoy the movie as much as I did.

Regards,

Zawiyah Baba
