Quoted from The President

Dear All,

1. 1st Aber Alumni Golf Tournament @ Bukit Unggul, 2
June 2007.

a. I would like to thank the organising team lead by
Rithaudin Hashim which includes Aminullah Anwar,
Hazlina Padil (Ina) and Salem Sheikh Omar for making
it a fantastic 1st golf tournament for Aber alumni.
The choice of venue was also apt as I thought they
have done a good job in accomodating to our requests.

b. I would also like to thank the sponsors and those
who participate and contribute directly and indirectly
to make it a very lively event too.

c. Congratulations to Mr Najmi Hambali (UCW 1991) who
emerged as the champion. Its nice to see the name of
an Aberite as the first name on the challenge trophy.
Perhaps we should get more participants who work in
Petronas next time as they tend to be good at golf.

d. It was good to see YAM Tunku Naquiydin (UCW 1969)
join in and stayed on right through prize giving. I
do appreciate all those who turned up with people like
Pozi Rabu coming all the way from Penang!

e. Whilst the photographer is arranging and sorting
out the photos, I noticed that she has 2 in her
website at the moment (http://izaown.fotopages.com/).
We hope to be able to give a cd of the photos to our
participants as well as keep a few copies for our
archives.

f. I have discussed with the Harvard Business School
Alumni Club of Malaysia about having an Aber vs HBS
golf competition to which they are ready whenever we
are. I leave it to all of you to revert to me as to
when you would like this to happen.

2. UWA ACM AGM with Elections - 23 June 2007.

A notice of our AGM will be out anytime now and I'd
like to remind you that this year we have elections
where all positions are open. It would be great if
you can set aside time to submit nominations for the
positions as well as turn up for the AGM & elections.
We can continue with BBQ after the proceedings of
meeting.

3. Old Students Association (OSA), UK

a. As some of you may be aware, last Easter in the
UK, I was elected as President of the OSA. I am
ofcourse proud for Malaysia as I am the only 2nd
non-British (after Tan Sri Arshad) to hold this
position in over 40 years if not more than that. The
OSA is one of few establishments of its kind in the UK
where it is independent from the University at birth
(1892). It should be more reason for the M'sian
members to give feedback on how both UWA ACM & OSA can
grow stronger and facilitate the needs of members. To
that I welcome your emails, calls & sms.

b. The Annual Reunion & Dinner is normally held
during Easter at Aberystwyth. I urge you to come over
for the next reunion in 2008. It would be nice to see
a good representation from Malaysia which can spread
over the years of graduation. We can even convoy our
way for the reunion from Malaysia or from London.
Should there be a change in venue for next year, I
will keep you posted.

c. We have been informed that by about August 2008,
our University will change its name. Subject to some
formalities, it will be known as 'Aberystwyth
University' with its own degree awarding powers. So
after that date, please do not look up our university
name from down the list but from the begining of a
list which begins with 'A' :)

d. Do have a look also at our University website as
there are some interesting developments. I would like
to point out that there is such a centre called
'see3d' (http://www.see3d.co.uk/). It may blow some
of you away, especially if you graduated before 1991.

Also do click on

e. I shall be leaving for the UK on 6 July to attend
the next OSA committee meeting and graduation
ceremony. I will also be making a courtesy call on to
the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Noel Lloyd. Should any of
you wish to raise anything of interest or have good
suggestions, please drop in a line to me. If for any
reason I am not available or in Jakarta, you can
always email me or speak with my assistant, KO (Puan
Khamicah Othman).

Thank you, Diolch.

Warm Regards, Cofion cynnes.

FARIZ ABU BAKAR (UCW 1991)
