Dinner Talk by Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Aled Gruffydd Jones
at Chelos Bistro, Bandar Baru Bangi, 30 November 2007.

The dinner talk was attended by over 40 pax including YBhg Tan Sri Arshad Ayub, Datuk Zawiyah Baba, Datuk Dr Hood Salleh of UKM, various personnel from local universities such as IIUM, UPM, UM and HELP. Also in attendance were people interested to enrol into Aber and ofcourse Aber graduates Such as committee members of the Aber Alumni Club, Redzuan Shawaludin & wife Aleza, Cikgu Vijay, Djohanne Abu Hassan, Harisi, Ubai & wife Zuratul & son, Shahril Fitri etc.

The President gave a short welcoming speech and wrap up of the 1 week Aber in Malaysia week events and invited TSA to say a few words about his time in Aber & Education.




Prof Aled Jones had 30 minutes to present his slides and covered various aspects of Aberystwyth University. There was a slide with photo of the new President of the University, Sir Emyr Jones Parry and the VC Prof Noel Lloyd. Inspite of being a prof in history, Prof Jones spent considerable time on Aber and the way forward rather than dwell too long on its illustrious past. It was sad that Prof Jones could not stay on longer to mingle with the crowd as he had to leave for the airport (KLIA) to get on his plane to China at midnight.


The Aber Alumni Club presented a belated birthday present to TSA comprising of a mug for stationaries, filofax & tie case holder each labeled with "Aberystwyth University Alumni Club" on it. The University tie brought by Prof Jones is also in the tie case holder.

The Club also presented Prof Jones with a token of appreciation in the form of a black knap-sack computer bag with the red dragon emroided at the top and the new Aberystwyth University logo at the bottom. Those interested to purchase the special edition bag can place orders with us.

As it was a cocktail dinner as opposed to a formal sit down dinner, it was a very lively occassion with Prof Chris Harding and Prof John Williams never having a pause in conversations with many in the crowd.

The night ended at 11.30pm with a group photograph and the last of the attendees leaving at just after 12am.

We'd like to thank Chelos Bistro management in particular, Puan Halina Ishak (Finance Director) and Cik Noraini Hamidon (Aber 1991) for the arrangement and tailored the evening with Welsh & Malaysian flags, photos of Aberystywth and the University and the level of service by the Chelos staff. Also thanks to chef Azrul for sumptuous food and its presentation.
